Officially a Non-Profit Society
Updated: May 26, 2019
We are proud to announce that we have changed from a "Group" to a "Non-Profit Society".
In early 2018 the Hatzic Lake Homeowners Group was formed on Facebook. This all began as a way to share information since it seemed nobody in government was listening to the concerns many of us had. I decided to expand the group beyond just homeowners and formed the Hatzic Lake Improvement Group and built a website to go along with it. Along the way, with the help of great people who have volunteered, pitched in, and provided input, a number of mandates were formed (which can be seen on our website).
In the spring of 2019 our group partnered with the Ministry of Environment and enrolled in their Lake Stewardship program. This program allows for a group of volunteers to be trained, and to participate in lake testing on Hatzic Lake on a bi-weekly basis for three years (more on that in a subsequent posting). This program has costs and requires us to account for funds, and may require future funding at some point. The District of Mission was kind enough to also assist with some funding for this project. This process required us to re-think about how we were structured.
Moving to a Non-profit organization means more structure for our group. It also means we will be able to work more closely with government and be able to accept government grants (if available).
We believe this move also allows us to provide certainty to the various people and organizations we will work with, that they are working alongside a professional and credible organization.
For those of you who have helped us reach this point, we thank you for your support. For those of you who are just getting to know us, we encourage you to get involved. Our lake is fantastic and we absolutely love it, but it can be so much more if we all work hard to get it into tip-top shape.
